An interactive map of the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula with hundreds of military facilities was published online. The map was compiled from up-to-date satellite images of Planet Labs for 2023.

The map, which depicts 223 active as well as temporarily mothballed Russian military facilities, was published by journalists of the Radio Svoboda Crimea.Realii project. They collected more than 200 Russian military facilities located on the Crimean peninsula in 10 categories and indicated their geolocations.

Using satellite imagery from Planet Labs and collected photos, the map created shows various military facilities such as military ranges, fuel bases, ammunition depots, locations of radar systems and air defense, headquarters and military units of various troops, airfields, and bases of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Reportedly, the map was created to warn Crimeans living near military facilities about the danger. It allows for detailed research of various military and other facilities associated with the Russian Defense Ministry and other Russian security agencies and identifies the potential threats they pose.

"It is important for us to inform our audience about the level of militarization of the Crimean peninsula. We want to warn Crimeans about the dangers associated with these places. After all, many people live in close proximity to Russian military installations. And given the large-scale military actions that Russia is conducting against Ukraine, these places are especially dangerous for the people around", - said one of the authors of the map, a journalist from Crimea. Earlier, Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, urged the residents of Crimea not to stay close to military facilities and facilities supporting the Russian army in the near future.
