Russia is facing new challenges for its air defense. The Kremlin will have to decide which territories to defend first, as Ukraine has intensified its strikes on targets in the aggressor country, forcing Moscow to reconsider the deployment of air defense assets.

This is stated in an article in the American edition of Business Insider. During Russia's invasion of Ukraine, both sides actively used air defense to protect themselves from UAV and missile attacks.

However, Ukraine's successful strikes and tactics have led to the fact that Russia now has to decide where to deploy its air defense systems, which creates new opportunities for attacks on less protected areas.

Analysts at the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that Russia does not have enough air defense assets to protect all necessary targets, even in supposedly safe areas.

ISW Russia Analyst George Barros says Russian defense is focused on protecting the most threatened areas, leaving other areas unprotected.

Ukraine continues to strike Russian targets, increasing pressure on its command.

Western allies have allowed Ukraine to use their weapons to attack some military targets in Russia, which was previously limited to targets in the occupied territory of Ukraine, the article says.

In addition, Ukraine has intensified the use of drones, striking airfields and oil facilities deep in Russia.

Experts note that Ukraine is pursuing a strategy aimed at weakening Russian air defense, forcing the Russian air force to either leave bases near Ukraine's borders or concentrate significant air defense forces there.

The escalation of strikes creates tension for Russian air defense, especially in regions such as the occupied Crimea, the publication notes.

In particular, Ukraine is targeting air defense in Crimea, which puts pressure on Russian forces.

The UK Ministry of Defense has stated that Ukraine's attacks on defense installations in Crimea weaken Russia's ability to defend the airspace of the occupied peninsula.

Experts believe that the current conflict is increasingly turning into an air defense war, in which, despite the pressure, Russia still maintains an advantage.

However, Ukraine continues to strive for a level playing field, seeking permission to use long-range weapons to strike targets deep in Russia, Business Insider reports.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the afternoon of August 28, a powerful fire broke out at the Ryazanskaya SDPP in Novomychurinsk, Russia, after an explosion.

And at night, in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, they complained about a UAV attack, another oil depot belonging to Rosrezerv caught fire there. Later, OBOZ.UA's sources reported that the attack was the result of a joint operation by the DIU and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, a BC warehouse was attacked in the Voronezh region. The governor of the region reported "falling debris", "fire near explosive objects" and evacuation of the population.

On Wednesday afternoon, a UAV attack was reported in the Kirov region: a tank for oil products was hit.
