The kamikaze drone managed to reach the middle of the country. This was reported by Ukrainian serviceman, communications, electronic warfare and intelligence specialist Serhiy "Flash" Bezkrestnov.
"The first Shahed-238 with a jet engine was shot down on the territory of Ukraine. It flew to the middle of the country. It was traveling at a speed of over 500 km/h. I did not think they would appear here so quickly," the statement said.
The military added that the new drones do not have any "Reich superweapons" - they have a regular charge.
At the same time, Shahed-238 has a high speed, which complicates the work of mobile groups, but not air defense. At the same time, according to Bezkrestnov, the drones will now fly faster and have better maneuverability.
It is worth noting that the Shahed-238 with a jet engine was first introduced by Iran in November 2023.
The Shahed-238 was introduced in three versions with different guidance systems. The classic version of the drone is equipped with an autonomous guidance system and GPS signals. The second version has an infrared guidance system. Such drones can be used to hit heat-contrast targets, including military equipment behind enemy lines.
Another modification of the Shahed-238 is likely to have a radar guidance system. These drones could become an analog of anti-radar missiles that target the radiation of search radar stations.
Valeriy Ryabykh, an expert and development director of the Defense Express information and consulting company, believes that the black color of the Shahed is a publicity stunt that does not affect combat performance. However, the black color coating may make it difficult to identify it, as the main way to do so in the area of operation of mobile groups is sound and searchlight beams.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine shot down eight Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones on the night of January 7-8. All enemy targets were neutralized in the sky over the southern regions.
