The state-owned enterprise "Ukrainian Defense Industry" told about production of 122mm shells

The state-owned enterprise "Ukrainian Defense Industry" stated that it had set up the production of 122-mm artillery shells abroad for the Ukrainian army, which is fighting a full-scale Russian invasion. The ammunition is produced in cooperation with a NATO member state.

This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the "Ukrainian Defense Industry" on Wednesday, March 22. The enterprise did not specify which country it was referring to.

At the same time, it noted that the first batch of 122mm shells had already been shipped to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The state-owned enterprise added that such ammunition is used by Ukrainian artillery when working with D-30 trailed howitzers (maximum range of 15,400 meters) and 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems (maximum range of 15,200 meters).

"This is the third type of ammunition after the 120-mm mortar shell and the 125-mm tank shell, which is produced using Ukrainian technology and with the involvement of Ukrainian specialized specialists at foreign facilities," the statement said.

As noted, the "Ukrainian Defense Industry" conducted ammunition tests, which confirmed the necessary tactical and technical characteristics of the shell: the strength of the body during the shot, the stability of the equipment, the maximum range of fire, the check of the pile during firing, the completeness of the shell burst.

Recommendations

The enterprise added that the number of fragments significantly exceeds the fragmentation of the standard "Soviet" model.

Recall, on March 20, EU foreign ministers approved a plan for joint supplies of ammunition to Ukraine, providing for the transfer of 1 million artillery shells to Kyiv within a year.

The proposal was put forward by Estonia. Estonia was the first EU member to raise the issue for discussion a month ago, proposing to urgently finance the increase in production capacity to ensure supplies.

At the time, the state stated that Ukraine uses an average of 60 to 210 thousand shells per month, and the European defense industry is "capable of producing only 25,000" per period.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, the Ukrainian government decided to establish the Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC. It will become the legal successor of the reorganized Ukroboronprom. The renewed enterprise will be 100% owned by the state.
