The Air Force explained why many missiles could not be shot down during the Jan. 8 attack
On the morning of January 8, the Russian terrorist army launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine. The enemy fired dozens of missiles of various types and modifications at different regions of our country.
A significant number of them were flying on a ballistic trajectory, which is a difficult target for Ukraine's air defense systems. Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this during the telethon.
According to him, Ukrainian servicemen lack modern Western air defense systems to combat Russian missiles. This is primarily about ballistic missiles.
During the morning attack on January 8, Putin's terrorists launched X-22 and Kinzhal missiles. The enemy also fired at Ukrainian cities with Iskander and S-300 and S-400 air defense systems.
"The enemy launched a large number of ballistic missiles. These are "Daggers" and missiles that enter the target on a ballistic trajectory - X-22, 6 ballistic "Iskanders", S-300/S-400. All of this flies on a ballistic trajectory. We need to understand that such targets can only be shot down by means that can do this, in particular, by Patriot systems," Ihnat said.
He added that the percentage of destruction of cruise missiles, in particular X-101, remains at the same level. On the morning of January 8, Ukrainian soldiers shot down 18 out of 24 such missiles. In addition, Ihnat emphasized that not all the missiles fired by the Russians reached their target.
On the morning of January 8, air alert was declared in all regions of Ukraine due to the launch of missiles, including "Daggers", by Russia. At night, the aggressor country sent more than a dozen Tu-95MS and MiG-31K aircraft into the sky, and at about 06:45 the first explosions were heard in Dnipro, followed by Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, and Khmelnytskyi.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian terrorist army launched a series of missile attacks on the Kharkiv region. The regional center and the city of Zmiyiv in Chuhuiv district came under enemy fire. Once again, Putin's terrorists targeted civilian homes.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russian terrorists launched rocket attacks on Zaporizhzhia. As a result of the enemy shelling, there are victims among civilians. As a result of a combined attack of cruise and ballistic missiles in different directions, only 5 explosions were heard in the regional center.
