Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of the Ground Forces of the AFU, visited the advanced positions of the Ukrainian defenders in the Bakhmut direction. He awarded soldiers for their courage and professionalism in combat.

According to the Telegram channel of the Operational Command "South", Syrsky presented awards "For personal courage" and "For valor", and also gave valuable gifts and cash prizes . The commander noted that the Defense Forces continue offensives on the flanks near Bakhmut, and although the enemy has more resources, the AFU is successfully countering the occupiers' plans.

"The 'Wagnerians' crawled into Bakhmut like rats to a mousetrap," the day before the commander of the AFU Ground Forces wrote in his Telegram.

According to Syrsky, despite the fact that Ukrainian forces now control the outskirts of the city, the importance of its defense is not lost.

"In the future it will provide us with opportunities to enter the city when there is a change in the operational situation on the front," he explained.

Thus, Syrsky noted the Ukrainian defenders who continue to carry out counterattacks in some areas near Bakhmut.

"Honored our defenders with awards and also gave gifts to our fighters. I thanked each and every one of them for their heroism, in particular, the servicemen of the 57th Brigade, 3rd Brigade, 5th Brigade, 24th Brigade, 56th Brigade and other brigades for their exploits on the battlefield," said Syrsky.

Also, the commander of the AFU Ground Forces together with unit commanders discussed and took necessary decisions for further development of the defense operation.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian marines destroyed 10 kafirs and an ammunition depot in a day. Military units and units of the Ukrainian Navy continue to inflict damage on the occupants.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar, as of May 21, the AFU had taken Bakhmut in a semi-encirclement, repelling the enemy's part of the dominant heights.
