Situation at the front is difficult, but Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to make progress - U.S. Department of State

The State Department commented on the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The U.S. Department of State commented on the Ukrainian Defense Forces' counteroffensive at the front. They assessed the situation on the battlefield as difficult, the reason being that the Russian army had a lot of time to strengthen its positions.

Despite this, Ukrainian soldiers have already managed to make progress on the front line. This was stated by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing on Monday, December 5, Ukrinform reports.

"The situation on the battlefield is complicated. The Ukrainian military is fighting against the Russian military, which is strongly entrenched. At the same time, we have already seen them (the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Ed.) making progress," the US Foreign Service spokesman said.

Miller added that the progress was very difficult for Ukraine's defenders. Representatives of the US State Department discussed the situation on the frontline in Ukraine during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Brussels last week.

The day before, the Washington Post published an article stating that the Ukrainian counteroffensive in 2023 was hampered by insufficient supply of military equipment, ammunition, a significant percentage of troops trained under an accelerated procedure, and a lack of air support for ground forces.

Journalists also wrote that the Ukrainian army's summer counteroffensive immediately went awry. And on the fourth day of the campaign, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, ordered the troops to suspend the attack to save the lives of the soldiers. He was forced to change his tactics.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the expulsion of the Russian navy from the Black Sea is the greatest achievement of the defense forces since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
