Shot in the knees for refusing to assault: captured Russian soldiers tell about the realities in their army
National Guardsmen from the Rubizh Brigade have recently replenished their exchange fund. Two Russian occupiers surrendered in one of the hot spots.
The Russians told about the horrific realities of the Russian army, where personnel are treated worse than cattle, and for refusing to go on "meat assaults" they are shot in the knees and tortured. The prisoners' stories were published on the brigade's official social media accounts.
"While performing a combat mission, soldiers of the 'Power of Freedom' battalion of the 'Rubizh' brigade captured two occupiers. It is difficult to surprise our soldiers, but the stories of the captured Russians amaze even experienced Ukrainian fighters," the defenders noted, publishing a video with the captives' stories.
Both Russians fought against Ukraine in the ranks of the 123rd separate motorized rifle brigade of the Russian armed forces. At least one of them, who identified himself as Mikhail Shipulin from Krasnodar Krai, signed the contract while in prison and ended up in Storm-V. He says his only motivation was to be released.
Another captor, who called himself Sergey, had deserted the Russian army before being captured and was hiding for about 11 months until he was caught by the Russian military. Then he and another member of the 500th were brought to the unit's headquarters, wires were connected to their bodies, and they were tortured with electricity. After that, both were severely beaten and chained to garbage cans outside, where they waited to be sent to the front line.
The occupiers said that the commanders intimidate the personnel with stories about the cruelty of Ukrainians so that they do not even think about surrendering. According to one of the prisoners, they are convinced that Ukrainians "fill all the holes with foam, rape them, cut off their genitals" to those Russians who surrender.
However, according to the personal stories of both Russians, sometimes the horror of the realities of the Russian army outweighs the fear of hypothetical "torture in captivity."
For example, a former prisoner from Kuban said that he spent four days at the positions from which he was captured, together with another Russian, for four days. At the same time, the "second army of the world" gave them an assault rifle and three horns of ammunition, as well as a liter of water and a trench candle for each. The only food they had was some sausages.
On the second day at the positions, the Russians were left without water and eventually had to drink their own urine. They had no communication, so eventually they decided to leave the position.
On the way, the occupier lost his partner and attracted the attention of Ukrainian soldiers. Drones and mortars were fired at him, and the invader was injured in both legs but survived. Moreover, he managed to crawl through the minefields to Ukrainian positions, where he surrendered.
The Russians also spoke about how the Russian army punishes those who refuse to go on "meat assaults."
"There were refusers... They were caught. What I personally saw was two people handcuffed... They told us: "We are passing by, do not pay attention". We passed by them, didn't look at them, and that was it. They just stood there handcuffed. I did not personally see what happened to them... If you are afraid at the position, the elders, I heard, say: I will shoot through your legs. If you don't want to go. Or... Well, you have to make him go. You have to make him go," the occupant said.
Both prisoners say they were amazed that they were treated better in captivity than their own commanders. They were warmed and fed, as well as provided with medical care. They continued to be treated humanely, unlike what they had seen in their own army.
"Although it cannot be said that such conditions are typical for all units of the Russian army, these testimonies give an idea of the terrible realities faced by some Russian soldiers," the Rubizh Brigade summarized.
They also called on Ukrainians who are ready to support the unit financially and help them liberate Ukrainian land from Russian invaders even more effectively to donate to the Bank.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian paratroopers captured 9 Russians using a drone with a loudspeaker. The operation lasted several days and ended with the successful replenishment of the exchange fund.
