Russians tried to hit Kyiv with 48N6DM missile: expert explains its characteristics
During the attack on Kyiv on the morning of January 23, Russian terrorists fired a 48N6DM missile. This type of missile is relatively new and is used for S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.
This was reported by military expert Serhii Zhurets, director of the Defense Express information and consulting company. The agency learned new details of the enemy missile attack on the capital from its own sources.
"The point is that missiles of the 48N6DM type for the S-400 complex were used to strike the capital along with cruise missiles," Zhurets wrote.
The expert noted that this is the fourth time that Russian troops have used such a missile to strike Kyiv. The occupiers first launched it at the Ukrainian capital in January 2023.
According to Zhurets, it is likely that the enemy was aiming this missile at the capital's railway station but Ukrainian air defense shot it down.
"The warhead weighs 180 kg, it is fragmentary and not accurate. Its fragments were found in the Solomianskyi district. It can be assumed that the most bloodthirsty target of the enemy in this area could be the capital's railway station," the expert said.
48N6DM is a relatively new missile, developed after the collapse of the U.S.S.R. The approximate range of the missile's ballistic trajectory is 250 km.
The most dangerous characteristic of the 48N6DM is its speed. The missile travels 2.5 kilometers per second.
This means that it takes just over a minute from launch from the ground to hit at a distance of approximately 200 km. Therefore, the missile can arrive faster than the air raid alert can go off.
