"Russian World" in all its "glory": the Internet shows the appearance of Avdiivka before and after the Russian occupation. Photo

The destruction of Ukrainian Avdiivka in the Donetsk region by Russian troops was shown from a satellite. By February 2022, the population of this city was approximately 35 thousand people.

The occupiers, trying to capture Avdiivka for many months, regularly shelled it with all kinds of weapons. In the last weeks before the occupation, enemy aircraft became even more active and threw heavy bombs at the city. The Donbas Realities project has shown the consequences of the "Russian World".

Photos taken by Mahar satellites show how the settlement looked before the full-scale invasion. These photos were taken on October 16, 2021.

The second images were captured on February 17, 2024, the day the Defense Forces command announced the withdrawal of troops from the city.

The difference between what the streets of Avdiivka looked like before and after is truly frightening.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported:

- During March 2, 14 enemy air strikes were recorded in the Avdiivka sector.

- The Institute for the Study of War said that the Russian occupation forces are trying to take advantage of the tactical opportunities that have emerged after the capture of Avdiivka. They are maintaining a relatively high tempo of offensive operations in the hope of advancing as far as possible in the area before Ukrainian troops establish more difficult defenses.
