Russian warships ask for evacuation: intercept confirms attack on Black Sea Fleet

On Tuesday, 1 August, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced a "failed" attempt to attack three maritime unmanned aerial vehicles on Black Sea Fleet patrol vessels. However, evidence has emerged online that the attack was indeed carried out, resulting in the injury of Russian sailors.

This is proved by the interception of requests for evacuation from the staff of one of the attacked ships. The audio of the conversation was published by Babel (to watch the video, scroll down to the end of the news story).

According to information disseminated by Russian "military commanders", among the attacked ships was a container ship named Sparta-IV, which, according to Naval News and observers, was transporting weapons from Syria. In June, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) notified the captain of a Russian civilian vessel that was bringing weapons for Russian citizens from Syria of suspicion.

Currently, Russian sailors from one of the attacked ships are asking for help in evacuating the victims. This contradicts statements about the "successful repulsion" of the drone attack made earlier by the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The evacuation involved Ka-29 helicopters, which were ordered to deliver the bodies of the dead and wounded to the Black Sea Higher Naval School in Sevastopol.

The intercepted conversation indicates that there are casualties as a result of the attack - at least one dead and five wounded who need urgent evacuation. The caller also discusses the need for an ambulance and a border guard to be present during the evacuation.

It is not known which ship suffered from the attack.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Russia said that on the night of 1 August, the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly attacked ships of the Black Sea Fleet. In particular, the patrol vessels Sergei Kotov and Vasily Bykov were allegedly attacked by three unmanned naval boats.
