On the evening of Monday, 24 July, Russian occupation forces shelled the town of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region. The attack killed one child and injured four others.
Three adult civilians were also injured. The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, reported this on Telegram (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the photo).
He said that at around 19:00, the occupiers opened fire on a local pond where people were resting. Russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka with Smerch multiple rocket launchers using cluster munitions. Such weapons are used to destroy enemy manpower.
As a result of the shelling, girls aged 5, 11 and 12 and an 11-year-old boy were wounded and taken to a hospital in Dnipro. A 10-year-old boy was also seriously wounded, unfortunately, he could not be saved.
This was reported to Suspilne Donbas by the head of the Kostiantynivka City Military Administration, Oleksiy Roslov. He said that the Russian attack took place at 19:10-19:20, and there were two attacks in total.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, three other people were injured - two 35-year-old women and a 44-year-old man. Among the injured children are two sisters, one of whom is in serious condition.
"All of them were provided with qualified medical assistance. At the time of the shelling, the citizens were near a recreation area on one of the local water bodies," the statement said.
Paramedics, police and prosecutors are working at the scene. The final number of victims is being established. Law enforcers are conducting a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"Russians are proving once again that they are fighting civilians and will stop at nothing in their desire to kill. I appeal to parents once again: children have no place in the war zone! Take care of them and evacuate. We provide everything you need for this," Kyrylenko wrote.
