Russian occupiers launched 81 missiles at Ukraine at night: Air Defense Forces shot down 34 of 48 cruise missiles

On the night of March 9, Ukrainian defenders shot down 34 Russian missiles and four Iranian-made kamikaze drones used by the occupiers to attack a number of regions. In total, the enemy launched 81 missiles of various types.

Several of them resulted in strikes, causing destruction and loss of life. It was reported by the Telegram channel of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

"Last night, the enemy launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. It launched 81 missiles of various types," the statement reads.

In particular, the defenders counted:

- 28 launches of Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles;

- 20 launches of Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles;

- 6 launches of Kh-22 air-launched cruise missiles;

- 6 launches of Kh-47 "Kinzhal" air-launched ballistic missiles;

- 8 launches of guided air defense missiles, including two Kh-31P and six Kh-59;

- 13 launches of S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles.

In addition, the occupiers launched eight Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs in the regions of Ukraine.

"The forces and means of the Ukrainian Air Force in cooperation with units of other constituent of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 34 out of 48 Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles, "Kalibr" sea-based cruise missiles, as well as four Shahed-136/131 UAVs," Zaluzhnyi emphasized.

It is also known that eight Kh-31P and Kh-59 guided missiles failed to reach their targets as a result of organized countermeasures. 

Earlier,the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Nataliia Humeniuk, noted that the Russian occupiers had carried out two waves of attacks and targeted critical infrastructure. According to her, the Southern Air Defense Forces alone shot down 19 air targets that Russia used to attack our regions on the night of March 9. In particular, 18 missiles and an enemy drone were disarmed.

In addition, Ukrainian defenders shot down a cruise missile near Pryluky in the Chernihiv region.

This time, the aggressor used many missiles for the attack, which our air defense capabilities are not yet able to counter. In particular, the Ukranian Air Force said that Russia had launched six "Kinzhal" cruise missiles at Ukraine for the first time.

In particular, it is known about missile strikes in Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, a rocket crash and the deaths of people in the Lviv region, as well as a complete blackout of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
