On the night of Sunday, July 23, a series of explosions was heard in Odesa. Air defense was working, but there are also hits. According to OC South, Russian forces attacked the region with X-22 cruise missiles from Tu22m3 aircraft, as well as Kalibra, Onyx, Iskander-K and Iskander-M ballistic missiles. Residential buildings and a cathedral were damaged, more than two dozen people were injured, one civilian was killed.

The speaker of the Operational Command "South" Vladyslav Nazarov said that there was a combat operation.

In addition to the X-22, Kalibr cruise missiles and Onyx supersonic anti-ship missiles in the direction of southern regions of Ukraine were recorded.

As reported in the Crimean Telegram channels, Onyx missiles the enemy launched at Ukraine from occupied Sevastopol again.

The presidential office reacted to another combined massive attack on Odesa Region by calling on partners to step up military assistance to Ukraine.

"Russian terrorists are attacking Odesa again. This is an unconcealed terror of a peaceful city. The enemy must be deprived of opportunities to hit civilians and infrastructure. More missile defense systems, as well as ATACMS: this will help Ukraine," Head of the AP Andriy Yermak.wrote.

Consequences of the attack

The RMA reported that in Odesa as a result of the Russian attack there are 18 victims, among them four children. 14 people hospitalized, three of them are children. Later it became known about one dead civilian.

Later Odessa region NP reported that the number of victims increased to 22 people.

"Suspilne" writes that after the explosions in Odesa a fire broke out. Local channels reported windows blown out.

As a result of shelling in Odesa there is damage to civilian infrastructure, residential houses and a religious institution, the RMA reported. It was officially confirmed that the The Saviour's Transfiguration Cathedral suffered damage.

"In addition to significant damage to the building, Orthodox relics were affected: the Kasper icon of the Mother of God, which is the patroness of Odesa, was pulled out from under the rubble," the report said.

"The destruction is colossal: it hit the right side and penetrated to ground floor. Half of the cathedral was left without a roof. The center piles, the foundation were broken. all the windows and stucco flew out. There was a fire, as the part where icons and candles are sold in the church caught fire," the cleric of the Odesa diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archdeacon Andriy Palchuk, told "Suspilne".

The Odessa RMA noted that this was the largest-scale enemy strike on the city's historic center since the war began. The Russians hit civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and practically destroyed the largest cathedral in southern Ukraine.

The city authorities also said that among the objects damaged by the Russians' night attack were the House of Scientists and houses nearby.
