Russia shows off its new Italmas kamikaze drone for the first time: why it is dangerous
The Russians have begun to use their new Italmas or Izdeliye-54 attack drones on the frontline. Tests of this new kamikaze drone began in the winter of 2023.
It is stated that the range of these drones is about 200 km, they are equipped with a warhead weighing several tens of kilograms, and the Russians also claimed that artificial intelligence systems are allegedly integrated into this UAV. This was reported by the social and household magazine Vodogray and the military portal Defense Express.
Vodogray drew attention to the fact that new Russian strike UAVs "Italmash" were spotted at the front and published photos confirming this.
Defense Express reminded that the new Italmas kamikaze drone was first shown in Russia in September 2023. It was developed by Lancet, a manufacturer of kamikaze drones. The goal was to create a drone similar in appearance and launch method to the Shahed, but with better tactical and technical characteristics.
Russia also claimed that in the winter of the same year it began testing a new kamikaze drone. At the same time, Russian propagandists claimed that the first use of this UAV allegedly took place in October 2023, before the tests began. However, the Russian "military commanders" who made these statements did not provide any evidence of these claims.
"As for the tactical and technical characteristics of the Italmash drone, it is known that its range is approximately 200 km, and the weight of the warhead is tens of kilograms. The racists themselves claimed that the drone allegedly has integrated artificial intelligence systems," Defense Express noted.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine had transformed a civilian airplane into a heavy kamikaze drone with a range of over 1000 km. Despite its impressive size, this drone has become a difficult target for Russian air defense due to its design features.
