Russia launched missiles from Tu-95MS, ballistic missiles and Kalibr, and air defense forces were engaged. All the details
On the night of Wednesday, January 15, the aggressor country Russia sent strategic aviation into the sky - Tu-95MS bombers took off from the Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region. In total, at least 8 TU-22M3, 6 TU-95MS and MiG-31K took off, and around 6 a.m. they launched missiles, including ballistic missiles, and also launched Kalibr.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Due to the enemy attack, which was aimed primarily at the energy system, a large-scale air alert was declared in Ukraine and emergency blackouts were introduced, and combat aircraft were sent up in Poland.
In total, during the combined missile and drone attack, the enemy, according to the Telegram channel monitor, used:
- Kh-101/55 cruise missiles launched by Tu-95MS from launch sites in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation;
- 3m14 cruise missiles of the Kalibr complex, launched by the fleet from the Anapa raid;
- Kh-22 supersonic cruise missiles launched by Tu-22m3 from the Oryol region of the Russian Federation;
- ballistic missiles 9m723 of the Iskander-M complex;
- Kh-59/69 cruise missiles;
- UAVs of the "Shahed-Geran" and "Gerbera" types.
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia attacked Ukraine with 117 air strikes during the night and morning: 43 missiles and 74 attack drones.
Air defense forces shot down 77 targets: 30 enemy missiles and 47 UAVs, another 27 drones were lost locally, and the missiles that were not shot down did not all hit their targets.
At the same time, the Air Force added that the enemy attacked Ukrainian energy facilities, including gas infrastructure in Kharkiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions: there are damage to facilities.
According to Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk, Russians launch Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea only during massive attacks to overload Ukrainian air defense. There is no point in linking today's attack to Ukraine's strikes on military targets in Russia the day before: such attacks require extensive preparation. And Russia carries them out when it has the opportunity to do so.
The missile attack lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes, from 06:04 to 07:48. The UAV attack lasted 5 hours and 33 minutes, from 21:00 on January 14 to 02:33 on January 15.
The enemy primarily targeted the power system.
Thus, energy facilities in Lviv region were under attack.
"During the morning attack, enemy cruise missiles were spotted in the region. As of now, they no longer pose a threat. The enemy attacked the energy infrastructure of our region and Ukraine. Emergency blackouts have been introduced in 6 regions, but Lviv is not on this list yet," said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi after the alarm was lifted.
The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, clarified that the Russians managed to hit two critical infrastructure facilities in Drohobych and Stryi districts. People were not injured, but there is destruction.
A residential building and an outbuilding were also damaged in the village of Sknyliv, Zolochiv district, as a result of the rocket fall. There were no casualties, and a crater 6 meters by 5 meters in diameter and about 2.5 meters deep was formed next to the house.
Meanwhile, footage of a huge crater from a downed Russian missile began to appear in local public media.
The enemy also tried to attack critical infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
"The morning in Ukraine began with a rocket attack. The enemy used various types of weapons. Critical infrastructure facilities were targeted in Prykarpattia. Air defense forces were working in the region. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Relevant services are working at the scene. The situation is under control. We thank our defenders and everyone who is involved in eliminating the consequences of the enemy attack," said Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration.
The vast majority of enemy missiles flew in the western direction. Therefore, Poland sent combat aircraft into the sky during the Russian attack. The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported that combat aircraft were activated, and air defense and radar systems were on high alert.
Preventive blackouts have been introduced in Ukraine due to the Russian attack. Emergency power outages are being implemented in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kirovohrad regions, Ukrenergo reported.
Monitoring channels began reporting the takeoff of Russian Tu-95MS several hours before the first enemy missiles entered Ukrainian airspace.
"Southeast course in the direction of the Caspian region of Russia. In case of a combat flight: entry into Saratov region from 05:00, entry into the Caspian region from 05:30," the monitors noted.
As of 05:20, the start of the entry of Tu-95MS aircraft into the Saratov region of the Russian Federation was recorded.

Also, according to the source, a MiG-31K was spotted in the air and launched.
"Probably ballistic missiles in the direction of Kremenchuk!" Mykolaiv Vanek clarified.
At 06:20, the Air Force warned of a group of missiles from Sumy region that took a southwestern course. They urged residents of Pryluky, Chernihiv region, to be especially cautious.
At 06:25, Mykolaiv Vanek reported the launch of Kalibr missiles from the Anapa area. The first three of them entered Ukrainian airspace within ten minutes - through Nova Kakhovka towards the former Snihuriv district, then towards Novyi Buh/Kazanka, and then, probably, towards Kirovohrad region.
The following groups of Kalibr missiles also flew through Kherson region.
"Missiles from TU-95MS are flying at the intersection of Sumy and Chernihiv regions, heading towards Poltava region, up to 10 missiles so far," Mykolaiv Vanek noted at 06:43.
As of 06:45, several missiles were spotted near Kropyvnytskyi, heading west toward Cherkasy/Vinnytsia regions, and several more were flying through Bereznehuvate toward Novyi Buh/Kazanka. As of 06:52, the first missiles were spotted in the airspace of Cherkasy region, north of Cherkasy, heading southwest, the Kalibrs were flying east of Uman, some were heading for the city, some for Kyiv region.
At 06:55, the first missiles, both Kalibr and Tu-95MS, were spotted in the Bila Tserkva district of Kyiv region. The Kalibrs were flying northwest to Zhytomyr region, while the Tu-95MS missiles were flying towards Bila Tserkva via Pereyaslav.
At around 7 a.m., the Air Force called on residents of Myrhorod, Kryvyi Rih, Cherkasy, Bila Tserkva, and Chernihiv to take cover.
The vast majority of missiles, according to monitoring channels, were headed for the western regions of Ukraine.
"The first missiles are in the airspace of Khmelnytskyi region, heading towards Starkon (Starokostiantyniv - Ed.) The bulk of the missiles are in the north of Vinnytsia region, heading west. A pair of Kalibrs in Bila Tserkva district, heading west," Mykolaiv Vanek wrote at 07:11.
After the air alert was announced, some Kyiv residents went down to the subway. As of 06:30, not many people decided to use the subway as a shelter, mostly young people, the elderly, and parents with children. Gradually, the number of people increased.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of January 14, Ukrainian air defenders repelled another Russian attack, destroying 58 attack drones. The rest also failed to reach the targets set by the enemy, while the wreckage and downed UAVs caused damage in five regions.
