More than 50 civilians died as a result of a missile attack by Russian troops on a cafe in the village of Hroza, Kharkiv Oblast when people gathered there to commemorate a fellow villager who died in the war. According to a woman who was born and raised in Hroza, there are coffins in every house there now.
Search operations are underway at the site of the café destroyed by the occupiers, and their fellow villagers are bringing flowers and toys to the café, which has become a grave for dozens of people. Horrifying photos and videos from the site of the Russian war crime were published by Radio Svoboda and Hromadske.
Residents of Hroza, who survived the October 5 missile attack by Russian troops, say that coffins are now in every house in the village. The invaders killed entire families of villagers.
"With one missile or whatever they used... they buried the whole village. Now there is not just one coffin in each house, but five coffins, three coffins at once... I don't know... There are only a few of us left. We have nothing. The whole village is there, and I'm afraid to go there, to look in that direction," one of the residents of Hroza told reporters.
Her friend and her entire family were killed in a cafe during a Russian missile strike.
As of 11:00 a.m. on October 6, 52 people have been reported dead as a result of the strike on Hroza: one person died in hospital.
According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Synyehubov, emergency services continue to work at the site.
"The rubble has been cleared, and some of the bodies are being identified. There are currently 6 victims in hospitals. They have serious injuries, doctors are doing everything necessary to help them," he said.
According to a Hromadske correspondent, explosions and bursts of cluster munitions in Hroza were heard this morning. Search operations were suspended during the alert. When it ended, the rescuers continued to dismantle the ruins of the destroyed building, looking for the remains of the bodies of the victims.
