Reuters: France to transfer 40 SCALP missiles and hundreds of bombs to Ukraine

About 40 missiles will be delivered in the coming weeks

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced new arms supplies to Ukraine. His country will provide our defenders with 40 SCALP missiles and hundreds of air bombs.

The French leader made this statement at a press conference on Tuesday. This was reported by the international news agency Reuters.

Thus, Macron said that in the coming weeks, about 40 long-range SCALP missiles and several hundred bombs will be delivered.

"With these supplies, I will go to Ukraine in February myself," Macron said.

He also emphasized that Europeans will need to ensure that Ukraine can continue to defend itself against Russia.

It is worth noting that in August 2023, Ukraine received SCALP-EG missiles from France, which are alternatives of the famous British Storm Shadow missiles, which are already showing their impressive results in the hands of Ukrainian soldiers. The French and British versions of the missile are generally identical, with the only differences being in the software and missile carrier aircraft.

These missiles are capable of hitting targets located at a distance of 500 kilometers. During the previous delivery, then-French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu noted that the missiles transferred to Ukraine had been modified to reduce the range to 250 kilometers.

The SCALP missile is more than 5 meters long and has a body diameter of 63 cm. It weighs 1,300 kg and has a payload of 450 kg. Such a warhead can leave holes up to 30 meters deep.

Reducing the likelihood of detecting the missile in flight is facilitated by the fact that it passes the entire marching section of the trajectory at an altitude of 100-150 meters, and before attacking the target, it descends even lower.
