The Armed Forces of Ukraine demonstrated the use of the Avenger surface-to-air missile system. This is an American self-propelled short-range air defence missile system that provides mobile short-range air defence for ground units against various types of enemy weapons.
Currently, these systems are being used by soldiers of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The unit's Telegram account provides more details about its operation (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the photo).
"The Avenger is an American self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system armed with 8 Stinger missiles and a 12.7 mm machine gun, providing short-range mobile air defence against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft and helicopters at low altitudes," the statement reads.
According to the defenders, the Avenger provides effective damage from 50 m in height and up to 6 km in distance.
The soldiers stressed that these systems have already proven their effectiveness in shooting down Shahed and Russian missiles.
"Together to victory!" - the soldiers said.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Avenger was developed in 2005 specifically for the 3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment in Iraq. As part of the modification, the right missile pod was removed and a 12.7 mm remote-controlled machine gun was installed in its place. This made the vehicle more versatile and allowed it to fire the machine gun directly in front of the driver.
