Positional fighting near Kupyansk, difficult situation on the left bank of Kherson region: ISW reports on clashes. Map

The Russian occupiers are engaged in positional battles with the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kupyansk sector of the front. There, they suffer heavy losses in military equipment, namely tanks and armored vehicles.

At the same time, on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to fortify, the enemy is trying to drive them out of their positions. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On December 20, Ukrainian defenders destroyed nine Russian tanks and 19 armored vehicles on the Kupyansk and Lyman frontlines, said Lieutenant Colonel Volodymyr Fitio, spokesman for the Ukrainian Army Command.

The next day, both sides continued positional fighting northeast of Kupyansk. Russian and Ukrainian sources noted that fighting in the Kupyansk sector continued in the area of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka and Stelmakhivka.

It is noted that Russian troops have recently made a minor confirmed offensive northwest of Kreminna (the area east of Yampolivka) in the Liman direction. There are also ongoing positional battles there, namely west of Kreminna near Terny and south of Dibrova and Bilohorivka.

In the Kherson sector, Ukrainian forces maintain a presence on the left bank of the Dnipro River. However, ISW says there have been no confirmed changes in the front line in this area over the past few days.

Ukrainian military observers and Russian propagandists said that positional fighting in and around Krynky continued. One blogger from Russia claimed that Russian troops had "advanced" to the center of the village.

According to Ukrainian officials, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 30 attempts by the occupiers to drive them out of their positions on the left bank over the past day.

It is known that units of the Russian 47th Motorized Rifle Division (18th Combined Arms Army), 328th and 337th Airborne Regiments (both part of the 104th Airborne Division) participated in unsuccessful attacks on Ukrainian positions near Krynky. The enemy also used elements of the private military company Convoy there.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukrainian soldiers emphasized that Russian troops have not abandoned their intention to capture Kupyansk. The occupiers continue active assaults in this area, as they seek to create a foothold in the district center for further advancement into Ukraine.
