Pentagon: The damaged Ukrainian Patriot system has been repaired and is fully operational
The Pentagon reported that one Patriot system in Ukraine was damaged by Russian shelling. However, it has now been repaired and is fully operational.
This was stated by Sabrina Singh at a briefing at the US Department of Defence. The system was probably damaged during Russian shelling of the Ukrainian capital on May 16.
Recall that the Russian Ministry of Defence reported on Tuesday that "a high-precision strike by a Kinzhal hypersonic missile on the city of Kyiv allegedly hit a US-made Patriot air defence missile system".
For their part, Ukrainian officials said they had successfully intercepted all six hypersonic missiles fired by the occupiers, but the Ukrainian military refused to comment on the Russian claim that the Patriot system had been hit.
CNN reported, citing a US official, that the extent of the damage needs to be determined and whether the system needs to be completely dismantled or whether the Ukrainians will simply repair it on site.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that it is impossible to destroy the Patriot SAM with Kinzhal missiles. They explained that the division has a radar for up to 8 launchers located separately from each other to ensure combat operations.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL:
- Ukraine's Ministry of Defence jokingly responded to the fakes of the Russian defence ministry's press service. They stressed that Russia does not need an army, as the pro-government media and the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defence can easily "provide" it with "victories" on the battlefield;
- Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, called on Ukrainians to remain calm about the Patriot issue. He stressed that it is unrealistic to destroy the system with a single Russian "Kinzhal". Even if there is any damage to the equipment, it will be promptly repaired.
