Patriot air defense systems from the United States, the Netherlands and Germany arrived in Ukraine: details

American-made Patriot air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine. They were donated to our country by the United States, Germany and the Netherlands.

These systems will strengthen Ukraine's defense against Russian cruise missiles and kamikaze drones. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavliuk.

"Patriot air defense systems from the United States, the Netherlands and Germany have arrived in Ukraine. These air defense systems will allow us to defend ourselves against attacks by Russian cruise missiles and UAVs. We are grateful to our partners for significantly strengthening Ukraine's air defense!" emphasized Pavliuk.

The MIM-104 Patriot air defense system is capable of destroying aerodynamic targets at a distance of up to 160 km and ballistic targets at a distance of up to 50 km. The maximum height of target destruction is 24.2 km.

The speed of the MIM-104 Patriot missile is up to Mach 4.1, and its weight is over 900 kg.

The Patriot battery includes up to eight launchers, each of which can carry four MIM-104 or MIM-109 missiles or up to 16 ERINT missiles. A fully charged battery can fire 32-128 missiles simultaneously. Depending on the configuration, a Patriot battery can cost from $550 million to $1.1 billion. Experts estimate the cost of launching one missile at $3 million.

Earlier, the arrival of these American air defense systems was confirmed by Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. He spoke about the difficult negotiations that had taken place to convince our partners, who had initially said that providing such assistance to Ukraine was "impossible." The minister also thanked his colleagues from the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as the people of these countries, for their important assistance in protecting the skies over Ukraine.

As noted by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these systems "will make it possible to drive Russian aviation away from the borders".

In addition, this SAM can shoot down ballistic targets at a distance of 40 km. Previously, Ukrainian air defense forces were unable to counter Russian ballistic missiles, such as the Iskander-M.
