Options are limited: Media learns how NATO can respond to DPRK sending soldiers to Russia
According to South Korean intelligence documents shared by Seoul with its allies, the second batch of North Korean troops will soon be heading to Russia. In addition, the DPRK has already sent millions of shells and hundreds of missiles to Russia. And NATO's potential response to Pyongyang's actions will be "limited."
Bloomberg writes about this, citing sources. It is noted that Seoul plans to present some of its intelligence to NATO officials on Monday, October 28.
According to South Korean intelligence documents, the first group of 1,500 elite special forces is already undergoing training in the Russian Far East as part of the planned deployment of approximately 10,000 North Korean soldiers. The first batch was brought to the port of Vladivostok between October 8 and 13 by ship and will be trained for about a month.
The documents also provide details of the scale of arms supplies from North Korea to Russia during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to the analysis, since August last year, Pyongyang has shipped approximately 8 million North Korean-made 122 mm and 152 mm shells. Also, 100 Hwasong-11 missiles and Bulsae-4 anti-tank weapons were delivered to Russia.
According to the sources, NATO's potential response to Pyongyang's actions is "limited." The sources do not specify by whom and what is limited, but note that the response may include increased assistance to Ukraine and strengthening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
As a reminder, on October 23, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Washington has "evidence of the presence of DPRK troops in Russia." North Atlantic Treaty Organization spokeswoman Farah Dakhlallah also confirmed that NATO has evidence of this.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said that his country "will not sit idly by" and will take steps in response. According to him, Seoul will take the necessary measures depending on the scale of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow. In particular, it may reconsider its position on providing weapons to Ukraine, Yoon said.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin indirectly confirmed the participation of the North Korean military in the war against Ukraine. He did not deny this, but used a familiar trick, once again trying to shift the entire responsibility for the escalation of the conflict to Western countries.
