Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied Mariupol are destroying an archaeological site dating back to the fifth millennium BC. The occupiers are using excavators to destroy the mound located in the center.

This was reported by the Mariupol City Council. They also published a corresponding video.

"In Mariupol, the occupiers are destroying an archaeological site dating back to the fifth millennium BC! Russian invaders in the occupied city are destroying an archaeological site – The Grandfather Mound – with excavators," the statement reads.

The Grandfather Mound, located on Pylyp Orlyk Street in the Central District, is six meters high and 70 meters in diameter.

The mound dates back to the 5th millennium BC and, according to historians, belongs to the Pit Culture. In 2021, a decision was made to preserve this monument through conservation.

However, the occupiers are vandalizing it, destroying everything around it. According to preliminary data, Russian troops are planning to build a new structure instead of an archaeological site.
