Russian archaeologists together with local collaborators under the supervision of the military are excavating a Ukrainian monument of national importance, which is the ancient Greek city of Chersonesos, located on the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. The main purpose of these excavations is an attempt to prove "the historical belonging of the city to the Russian Federation".

This is reported by the Center for National Resistance. A similar scenario took place in the past, in particular, during World War II, when the Nazis also conducted excavations on the peninsula, trying to find evidence that Crimea is exclusively German territory, where the Gutones statehood once existed.

The modern occupiers intend to prove that Chersonesos was actually inhabited by Slavs and was called the city of Korsun. In the future, Russian propaganda plans to promote this version of history to Kyivan Rus, which Putin's regime considers its heir.

The main goal of this propaganda is not only to "justify its right to the island", but also an attempt to change the perspective of the history of the Crimean Tatars, reducing their importance in the history of Crimea to an "insignificant stage".

To achieve their goals, Russian "historians" can use hoaxes and deliberate destruction of Greek heritage. Many artifacts are illegally exported to the Russian Federation, manifesting systematic robbery and destruction of the site.

It should be noted that the names of all criminals involved in the distortion of history and propaganda are known and each of them will be held responsible for their actions.
