On the morning of July 31, explosions were heard in the area of temporarily occupied Donetsk. Later, it was reported that Russian air defense could have shot down its own Mi-8 helicopter.

The downed aircraft, according to preliminary data, was carrying wounded occupants. This was reported by local publics and a number of Ukrainian Telegram channels.

Reports of the explosions started spreading in Donetsk publics around 10 am. Also, footage of black smoke over the occupied city began to appear online.

Meanwhile, pro-Russian resources reported Russian air defense activity both over Donetsk itself and over nearby Makiivka.

Local resources do not report how many air defense systems the Russian invaders managed to shoot down. However, reports began to appear in local chat rooms that the occupiers had shot down at least one target. It could have been a Russian Mi-8 helicopter carrying wounded Russians.

Eyewitnesses on social media also wrote that many ambulances rushed to the site of the alleged crash of the enemy "bird".

Information about the alleged downing of a Russian Mi-8 by Ukrainian air defense systems is also being spread by some Ukrainian publics.

"We have good news from Donetsk. An enemy helicopter with a crew has probably gone down there. Russians shot down their own transport helicopter Mi-8. It is reported that there were wounded on board," one of them writes.

"An Mi-8 helicopter is down near Donetsk," another adds.

"Over Donetsk, f*cking Ukrainian air defense shot down its own Mi-8 transport helicopter. Something is happening in the Proletarsky district of Donetsk. A bunch of ambulances rushed to the scene of the explosions. There is panic in local chat rooms. It looks like there are a lot of wounded and dead orcs," reads a message on the Telegram channel "Politman Vovchansk Nova Kakhovka Chasiv Yar Vasylivka Pokrovsk".

And "Operational Armed Forces of Ukraine", referring to local messages in chat rooms, adds that they also write about a downed plane that could have allegedly carried about 300 Russians.

As a reminder, on July 20, Ukrainian soldiers struck at the occupiers' base in the temporarily occupied Donetsk.
