Occupants launched "Kalibr" and " Kinzhal" in Ukraine during South African President's visit: air defence system activated in Kyiv

Russia's missile attack on Ukraine

Russian troops fired missiles at Ukraine from the Black Sea, flying towards Kyiv, and an air alert was declared across almost the entire territory of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, the air defence forces managed to shoot down 6 Kalibr cruise missiles and 6 Kinzhal air-to-ground missiles.

This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The aggressor state carried out the missile attack during the visit of the President of South Africa to Ukraine, who brought his "peace plan" to Kyiv, and Russia showed Africa how much it "wants" peace.

At 10:51 a.m., the Air Force reported that it had detected the launch of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea.

"Several Kalibr missiles heading north! Do not ignore the air raid alert!" - the Ukrainian Air Force later clarified.

After the launch of the enemy missiles, the alarm was raised almost throughout the entire territory of our country.

At around 11:20 a.m., air defence forces began operating in the Kyiv region.

"Air defence is operating in the region, on the outskirts of Kyiv. Stay in shelters until the air raid is over!" - said the Kyiv City Military Administration.

At 11:32 a.m., air defence systems began operating in the capital. The Air Force warned of the threat of ballistic missile launches.

At 11:38, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported an explosion in the Podil district of the capital.

Meanwhile, the head of the Kyiv region police, Andriy Nebytov, reported on the destruction and casualties in the Kyiv region as a result of a Russian missile attack.

"As a result of an enemy missile attack in one of the districts of Kyiv region, private houses were damaged. A fire has started. There are victims. Police, medics and the State Emergency Service are working at the scene," he said, posting photos of a destroyed private house.

At around 12:15, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported possible cruise missile launches, this time from the direction of Novorossiysk.

However, it was later clarified that the information about the launches was not confirmed.

Today, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in the capital of Ukraine as part of his African mission. He intends to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to present him with an African "peace plan" and persuade him to start negotiations with Russia.

Along with him, the presidents of Zambia, Senegal, the Comoros (whose president heads the African Union), the Prime Minister of Egypt, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, who are in Kyiv, received "greetings" from Russian President Vladimir Putin in the form of missiles.

According to Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Russia sent the highest number of missiles at Kyiv in recent weeks precisely because of the African delegation's visit.

"Putin is 'building trust' by launching the largest missile strike on Kyiv in recent weeks, precisely during the visit of African leaders to our capital. Russian missiles are a message to Africa: Russia wants more war, not peace," Kuleba wrote.

According to preliminary data, during the attack, air defence forces destroyed:

- 6 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles;

- 6 Kalibr cruise missiles;

- 2 reconnaissance UAVs.

"Another terrorist attack on the capital was repelled. The Air Force shot down 6 Kalibr and 6 Kinzhal missiles, as well as a Russian UAV. Russia's missile attack took place just as African leaders arrived in the capital. Putin wants to demonstrate that he is ready to ignore the security of foreign leaders, he doesn't really care, because he feels completely impunity. And anyone can be in the place of the African leaders," commented Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, on today's attack.

He recalled that the aggressor state had also launched missile attacks during the visit of US President Joe Biden to Kyiv, as well as when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the Ukrainian capital.

And the world, Yermak is sure, should draw certain conclusions from this.

"The world needs to understand that consolidation and the toughest possible stance towards Russia are now needed. We need to show strength to a state that undermines global security and acts with terrorist methods. We must unite around President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Formula for Peace. There is no alternative to it. And we must discuss further steps at the Global Peace Summit. Only strong diplomacy and a strong position can put an end to Russian terrorism. After all, this concerns everyone, every state that wants to exist and preserve the world order," he stressed.

The day before, on June 15, Ramaphosa visited Warsaw and met with Polish President Andrzej Duda. Later, he travelled to Kyiv as part of a peacekeeping mission. In addition to him, it also includes representatives of the continent that has suffered adverse economic consequences of the war. In particular, these are the leaders of South Africa, Zambia, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, Senegal, Uganda and Egypt. Earlier, Reuters reported that the African "peace plan" for Ukraine could include the withdrawal of Russian troops and the revocation of Putin's arrest warrant. The journalists claim that these points are contained in a framework document that African leaders brought to Kyiv on June 16 and will take to St Petersburg on the 17th.
