Occupants advance in industrial area near Avdiivka, Ukrainian Armed Forces storm left bank - ISW

ISW reports on the course of fighting at the Avdiivka and Kherson directions

On December 6, the Russian occupation forces conducted offensive operations near Avdiivka and achieved a small success in the city's industrial area. In another section of the area, the Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattacked the enemy, driving it back from some positions.

At the same time, the defenders stormed Russian positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson region. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on the course of the fighting.

Fighting around Avdiivka

Analysts refer to geolocated footage that shows Russian troops making some progress in an industrial area southeast of Avdiivka. There, a Flying Skull unit and fighters from the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed an enemy tank that was on its way to fire on their positions.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces repelled at least 25 occupant attacks east of Novobakhmutivka (7 km northwest of Avdiivka), northeast of Berdychiv (4 km north), and in the area of Avdiivka, Stepove (3 km north), Pivnichne (6 km west), Tonenke (5 km west), and Pervomaiske (11 km southwest).

Russian bloggers claimed that the Russian Armed Forces had "advanced" south of the Avdiivka landfill (northeast of the city), near the coke plant (northwest), near Pervomaiske and east of Avdiivka. However, ISW experts did not find any visual evidence of this.

Russian footage from December 5 allegedly shows elements of the 87th and 1487th regiments (1st Army Corps of the "DPR"), the 10th Tank Regiment (3rd Army Corps, Western Military District) and the occupiers' sabotage and assault brigade "Veterans" operating in the industrial zone southeast of Avdiivka.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces counterattacked the enemy near Avdiivka on December 6 and achieved a confirmed offensive. Ukrainian troops advanced in Stepove. The propagandists admitted that Ukrainian forces retained their positions in the center of the town despite Russian attacks.

Fighting on the left bank of the Kherson region

On December 6, Ukrainian troops continued ground operations on the left bank of the Kherson region. Bloggers from the Russian Federation confirmed that Ukrainian assault groups had attempted several times to advance south of Krynky (30 km northeast of Kherson and 2 km from the Dnipro River) and had strengthened a bridgehead southeast of the settlement.

They also claimed that Ukrainian forces continued to strengthen their grouping inside Krynky. In addition, the Ukrainian military holds positions near Antonivsky Bridge and near Kozachi Lager (25 km northeast of the regional center and 3 km from the river), and effectively controls the forests, islands, and coastline along the Konka River.

At the same time, propagandists boasted of the strikes, admitting that over the past 24 hours, the Russian Armed Forces had fired more than 100 cruise missiles at Ukrainian targets in the direction of Krynok.

Geo-located footage released on December 5 confirms that Russian troops are holding positions on islands on the Dnipro River south of Veletynske in Kherson Oblast (15 km southwest of Kherson).

"However, this footage does not indicate that Russian troops have recently advanced into the area and they have probably held these positions for some time," ISW emphasized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already passed the second line of defense of the Russian troops, of which there are three in total. According to him, the defenders have de-occupied 50% of Ukraine's territory.
