Not only Shahed? Russia is negotiating the supply of new drones from Iran - the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine
The Russian Federation is negotiating to get new types of drones from Iran. First of all, the occupiers want to get strike UAVs or kamikaze drones.
In addition, the Russian Federation is trying to develop its own unmanned aerial vehicles, both reconnaissance and strike. This was stated by Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy head of the Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, in a new interview with RBC-Ukraine (to watch the video, scroll to the bottom of the page).
A representative of the DIU said that the existing contracts for the supply of Shahed drones to Russia have not yet been fully implemented. There are still about 300 units of these drones to be delivered to the aggressor country.
"We have information that the Russian Federation is negotiating the supply of other types of Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles. We know about it, we are talking about it," Skibitskyi said.
He explained that "first of all, the Russians will try to get strike or kamikaze drones - this is what is critical for them today".
Russia has reconnaissance drones. These include the Orlan-10, which were produced in large numbers before the large-scale invasion.
In addition, the aggressor is trying to develop other UAVs of its own, both for reconnaissance and for direct attacks.
"A lot will depend on the foreign-made components that enter the territory of the Russian Federation. If they are not available, there will be no effective drones. Because it is much easier to make them, but the effectiveness of such weapons will be much lower than the tactical and technical characteristics," Skibitskyi said.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Turkish company Baykar has recently received permits to manufacture Bayraktar TB2 and AKINCI SİHA drones in Ukraine. Their development is expected to begin in 2025.
