Moskalkova initiates conversation with Lubinets for the first time because of captured occupants

Moskalkova initiated a conversation with Lubinets over prisoners

The advance of the Armed Forces in the Kursk region forced the Russians to take the initiative in the exchange of prisoners. In particular, the Ombudsman of the aggressor country, Tatyana Moskalkova, initiated a conversation with the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.

According to Mr. Lubinets, he recently had a conversation with the Russian ombudsman regarding the exchange of "fresh" prisoners, i.e., those Russians who surrender en masse in the Kursk region. By the way, this is the first time that the Russian Federation has initiated a conversation over prisoners.

"Yes, there was an initiative conversation... We are now exchanging information. I also inform the ICRC and the UN that the rights of Russian prisoners of war are being protected. We are monitoring this situation, and at any time Ukraine is ready to continue exchange processes based on the Geneva Convention," the Ukrainian ombudsman said.

The Ukrainian leader was the first to speak on the matter: Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region primarily "for replenishing the exchange fund with prisoners." Lubinets, in turn, emphasized that it was the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region that forced Russia to take the initiative in the prisoner exchange.

"I don't know how it will end yet. But the Ukrainian side is always ready to conduct exchange processes," the ombudsman added.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on August 14, the President of Ukraine said that since the beginning of the day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had managed to capture more than 100 Russian soldiers during the advance in the Kursk region.

Meanwhile, the Defense Forces are creating a security zone in Russia to protect Ukraine's border regions (primarily Sumy). The Russian civilians who remain in the Kursk region are protected by international humanitarian law, which Ukraine fully respects.
