Macron: we are ready to act in the face of any Russian attack

In recent weeks, Europe has demonstrated progress in supporting Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said. The EU is "ready to act in the face of any attack from the Russians, which is a real change in approach."

The French President made the statements at a press conference in Brussels (Belgium) following a meeting of the European Council. The politician believes that Europe's decisions are "strengthening" and unity is growing.

"Things are progressing well, and the progress made in recent weeks has been significant in terms of unity and, above all, in terms of strengthening our position," Ukrinform quoted the president as saying.

Macron drew attention to the fact that the text of the European document for the first time does not simply say that Kyiv will be helped "as much as necessary." It officially declares support "as intensive as necessary." "This means that we are ready to act in the face of any attack from the Russians, which is a real change in approach," the politician said.

For example, he considers the Czech Republic's initiative to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Defense Forces to be an achievement, as well as a common understanding of the need for additional funding for Kyiv.

In this context, Macron noted the contribution of the Netherlands and Germany. "Germany is the country in Europe that provides the most funding bilaterally. We should not point the finger at Germany, on the contrary. We should welcome the efforts that are being made," the French leader said.

"If we have to go much further, if we have to go even deeper, if the situation worsens, if funding other than European funding dries up, we must be ready and offer more radical and innovative solutions," he added.
