Macron announced that France will transfer SCALP-EG long-range missiles to Ukraine: what is known

France plans to transfer SCALP-EG long-range cruise missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces as part of a new aid package. Kyiv will also receive dozens of armored vehicles, including AMX-10RCs.

French President Emmanuel Macron said this in an interview with TF1 on May 15. He stressed that France's strategy is to "help Ukraine to hold out, to bring everyone back to the negotiating table.

In addition, he said, Paris is negotiating with a number of countries to "train pilots. Macron also spoke out about supplying Ukraine with airplanes.

"We are not waging war against Russia, we are helping Ukraine to resist the Russian aggressor. We are not supplying weapons that would allow us to reach Russian soil. Sometimes you have to set limits. We must not weaken France's ability to defend itself," Macron said about the transfer of fighter jets to the AFU.

It is worth noting that France has armed Storm Shadow missiles, which the AFU previously received from Britain, but uses the name SCALP-EG for them.

The French Navy primarily equips with SCALP cruise missiles the Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Eurofighter fighter-bombers and in the future the next generation multi-purpose nuclear submarines. The most important difference between the SCALP missile and its prototype is the composition of the guidance system and the range of the guided missile - the SCALP missile is 250 km and should be increased to 400 km against Apach's 150 km in the future.

The SCALP missile's design incorporates a number of measures aimed at reducing the missile's radar signature beforehand. The missile's in-flight detection probability is also reduced by the fact that the entire marching section of its trajectory goes at an altitude of 100-150 m, and before attacking the target it goes even lower - down to 50 m.

On May 11, Great Britain officially confirmed the transfer of long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine. Thus, the Ukrainian Defense Forces received a new long-range strike capability on the eve of the long-awaited counterattack against Russian forces.

A high-ranking U.S. military official said that the munitions "are a real game changer in terms of range" and give Kyiv the capabilities it has been asking for since the beginning of the war.

As OBOZREVATEL reported:

- Russia said it had nothing to respond to the Storm Shadow missiles that Ukraine received from Britain. Propagandists were outraged by the lack of the necessary, in their opinion, reaction from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and the Kremlin;

- At the same time, the U.S. said that it had no plans to transfer the long-range missiles to Ukraine. They stressed that each country has the right to make its own decisions in the field of defense.
