Lithuania hands over M577 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine: how they will help the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has announced the transfer of M577 armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian army. The government emphasized that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with €1 billion in aid.

The defense ministry also spoke about the transfer of other weapons. This was reported by the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

"Lithuania continues to provide uninterrupted military support to Ukraine. On April 23, M577 armored vehicles intended for the Ukrainian army reached the warring country," the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Defense also stressed that in response to Ukraine's requests, 155 mm ammunition, M577 armored personnel carriers, anti-drone systems, ammunition for the Carl Gustaf anti-tank grenade launcher, RISE-1 consoles, detonation systems, generators, L-39ZA Albatross aircraft and other equipment have already been delivered this year.

"Lithuania's support for Ukraine is long-term and has already amounted to one billion euros. Lithuania has provided Ukraine with military support worth about 610 million euros. This year, support has already been provided for about 84 million euros. It is expected that this support dynamic will continue," the Ministry of Defense said.

The M577 armored personnel carrier is based on the M113 armored personnel carrier and is designed to serve as a battalion-level mobile command post (tactical operations center).

Unlike the basic version of the M113, the M577 armored personnel carriers are equipped with an additional set of radio stations to ensure command and control of the unit and coordination with other units and higher levels of command. Typically, the vehicles are equipped with prefabricated antenna masts that are mounted on the roof.

Depending on the modification, the M577 can reach speeds of up to 66 km/h. The range can reach 480 kilometers.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, during which it became known that the UK would provide the largest amount of military support for Ukraine, estimated at half a billion pounds (over $600 million).

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the bill on additional funding for Ukraine, which was approved by the US House of Representatives, provides for the allocation of $60.84 billion to support our country. Of this amount, $13.8 billion will be used to purchase new weapons and equipment.
