Italy's defense minister says it is time to seek a "political solution" to the war in Ukraine
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has said that it is time to look for a "political solution" to the war waged by Russia in Ukraine. He is convinced that "what could not be done with weapons must be done in another way."
Crosetto made this statement on Saturday during a visit to Italian troops stationed in Malbork in Poland. This was reported by the ANSA news agency.
"The war has been going on for almost two years, and I believe that along with military participation and support for Ukraine, it is important to follow a path that leads to a political solution," Crosetto said.
He is convinced that what cannot be achieved militarily can be achieved through a political front.
"What cannot be achieved militarily - and so far we have achieved the preservation of Ukraine, which could have been destroyed, and the consolidation of the border, which has blocked the Russian attack - can be achieved by opening a diplomatic and political front to try to achieve the same result through peace talks," the minister explained.
He added that what existed before the war should be restored and "what could not be done with weapons should be done in another way."
It is worth noting that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has named a condition under which negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are possible. Kyiv will discuss the "Ukrainian formula for peace" only.
As a reminder, the third summit of the Ukrainian peace formula brought together participants from 66 countries, the largest representation at such a gathering. Among them are the EU, the US, the UK, and Turkey, which acted as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, as well as members of the BRICS, which includes Russia, South Africa, Brazil and India.

He noted that the points of our formula were developed so that everyone who truly values international law could express themselves and support global efforts against aggression.
