ISW: AFU advances and gains foothold on the left bank of Kherson region

Defense Forces advance in Kherson region

Over the past 24 hours, on October 20, the Defense Forces managed to advance in the Kherson region. Having carried out a large-scale ground operation, they gained a foothold on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.

This is stated in the analysis of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). It is noted that, according to geolocation footage, Ukrainian forces have advanced to the northeastern Krynky, 27 km east of the city of Kherson and 2 km from the Dnipro River.

Russian military bloggers confirmed the presence of Ukrainian troops near Krynky and Antonivka highway and railway bridges. Another propagandist claimed that our defenders had temporarily advanced further into the settlement as far as the Kozachi Laheri-Krynky-Korsunka road. However, Russian air strikes pushed them back to the northern outskirts of the settlement.

Another "military commander" reported fighting near Pishchanivka, located 14 km east of Kherson and 4 km from Dnipro, and, according to him, a Ukrainian sabotage group is operating on the southern outskirts of the settlement.

The analysts noted that one of the Russian military bloggers wrote about the presence of Ukrainian forces in Pishchanivka on October 18.

"However, ISW has not observed any other visual evidence that Ukrainian forces are holding positions in settlements on the eastern bank, except for Krynky," the analysts concluded.

The day before, the Associated Press reported that Ukrainian marines had successfully landed on the occupied part of the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They launched reconnaissance drones to assess the situation within the radius of a possible clash with the enemy. Enemy positions were pushed back from the front line thanks to the effective work of the Defense Forces.

At the same time, officials in the Ministry of Defense have not confirmed the information about the start of the offensive in the Kherson direction yet.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- The day before, ISW noted that the Russians were hysterical because of the larger-than-usual ground operations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces on the left bank of the Kherson region. The occupiers say that the Ukrainians maintain a limited presence in some areas near the Dnipro River coastline and the Antonivska railway bridge.

- Russia said that on October 17-18, company units of two Ukrainian marine infantry brigades stormed across the Dnipro River to the left bank of the Kherson region. The propagandists were concerned about the continued activity of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the area.
