Iran has sent Russia about 400 ballistic missiles and this is just the beginning - Reuters
They include a large number of ballistic weapons from the Fateh-110 family, such as the Zolfaghar mobile missile. According to experts, it is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 300 to 700 km.
In particular, Jeffrey Lewis, an expert at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, said that these missiles are precision weapons.
"They are used to target objects of high value that require precise damage," Lewis said.
One Iranian source said that the deliveries began in early January after meetings late last year between Iranian and Russian military and security officials in Tehran and Moscow.
It is noted that there have already been at least four missile deliveries and more will follow in the coming weeks.
Another senior Iranian official said that some of the missiles were sent to Russia by ship across the Caspian Sea, while others were transported by plane.
"There will be more supplies. There is no reason to hide it. We are allowed to export weapons to any country we want," said one Iranian official.
In October, UN Security Council restrictions on Iran's exports of certain missiles, drones and other technologies expired. However, the United States and the European Union have maintained sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program amid concerns about arms exports to its proxies in the Middle East and to Russia.
One source familiar with the matter confirmed that Russia had recently received a large number of missiles from Iran, without providing further details.
