"Hitting targets with metres of precision": Ukraine uses AI drones to attack Russia - CNN

To attack Russian targets, Ukraine is using drones with longer ranges and improved capabilities. Some of them integrate basic forms of artificial intelligence to better navigate in space and prevent jamming.

This was reported by CNN, citing sources close to the Ukrainian drone program. The use of AI ensures accuracy in the face of obstacles.

"Each drone has an onboard computer with satellite and terrain data. Flights are determined in advance with our allies, and the UAVs follow the flight plan, which allows us to hit targets with an accuracy of one meter," the source said.

Noah Sylvia, an analyst at the Royal United Services Institute, a British think tank, noted that Ukrainian drones are equipped with "machine vision," which is a type of artificial intelligence.

"Basically, you take a model, put a chip in it, and train that model to determine the geography and the target it is headed for. When it's finally complete, it will be able to identify its location," the expert said, adding that the drones are fully autonomous and do not need to communicate with satellites.

Helima Croft, director and global head of commodity strategy at RBC Capital Markets, called it a change in Ukrainian tactics to try to cut off funding for the Russian military machine. In her opinion, such attacks could have a greater impact on the Russian economy than the current sanctions.

As reported, on April 2, explosions occurred in Yelabuga in the Republic of Tatarstan (RF). Locals complained about the drone attack. The target was the Elaz-Naftoprodukt oil refinery. Our sources said that the nighttime show at the refinery in Tatarstan was a joint operation of the SSU and the DIU. A Ukrainian long-range drone hit the primary oil refining unit at the Nizhnekamsk refinery, which caused a fire.
