General Staff: the situation in Vovchansk is under control, 160 occupants were killed in 24 hours
In the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian defenders are holding the line near Vovchansk, and the enemy is unable to drive our troops from their positions in and around the city. The situation in Vovchansk is under control.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a summary on May 16, 2024, as of 23:30. It is noted that the enemy continues to try to break through the defense of Ukrainian units in the Shebekino-Vovchansk direction, but our defenders repel the occupiers' attacks.
In total, 114 combat engagements have taken place since the beginning of the day, five of which are still ongoing.
Situation at the front
There were 10 combat engagements in the Kharkiv sector. Our troops repelled eight attacks in the vicinity of Lyptsi, Starytsia, and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. The enemy continues to try to break through the defense of Ukrainian units in the Shebekino-Vovchansk area. The situation in Vovchansk is under control, the General Staff noted.
As of the beginning of the day, enemy losses in the Kharkiv sector amounted to 160 occupants and 21 units of weapons and military equipment.

Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled six enemy attacks in the Kupiansk sector. In some areas, our troops are taking measures to improve the tactical situation. Another combat engagement continues in the Krokhmalne-Berestove area. The situation is under control.
In the Liman sector, the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops eight times in vain.
Four enemy attacks were repelled in the Siversk sector. Fighting continues in the Berestove – Vyimka area. In the course of defensive actions, no positions were lost, and the situation is under control.
In the Kramatorsk sector, 13 attempts to break through the defense of our troops were repelled. Our defenders repelled two enemy attacks in the areas of Bakhmut – Klishchyivka and Opytne – Andriivka. The situation is under control.
In the Pokrovsk sector, 35 enemy attacks took place. In some areas, as a result of intense fire and enemy assault, the Defense Forces regrouped in the course of the fighting. Fighting continues in the area of Novooleksandrivka.
In the Kurakhove sector, the enemy made 12 attempts to break through the defense of our troops. Ukrainian positions were not lost in action.
In the Vremivsk sector, the enemy made nine unsuccessful attempts to improve its tactical position in the areas of Pivdenna Shakhta No. 1, Urozhaine, and Staromayorske. The situation is under control.
In the Prydniprovsk sector, the Defense Forces repelled nine enemy attacks in the Oleshkivski Pisky-Krynky area. In the course of the fighting, the enemy did not succeed, and no positions were lost.
