Fire occured near military airfield in occupied Dzhankoi: what is known

Crimea reports fire near military airfield

On October 31, a fire broke out near a military airfield near Dzhankoi in Crimea, temporarily occupied by Russia. The causes and consequences of the fire, which was detected by satellites over the peninsula, have not yet been established.

This was reported by the Crimean Wind Telegram channel. At the same time, they do not rule out that the satellites "saw" the manifestations of secondary fire, for example, as a result of the shrapnel flying after a missile hit military equipment or weapons.

"There was a fire near the airfield near the village of Vilne near Dzhankoy," the Crimean Wind monitoring group reports, citing satellite data. The images were taken today at 14.23," Crimean Wind said in a statement.

It showed the approximate coordinates of the fire.

At the same time, the channel's administrators mentioned that it is quite difficult to determine the exact coordinates of the fire using the images. And the fire itself may be the result of other processes that the satellites could not detect.

"It is worth noting that the accuracy of determining the coordinates of the fire is low and can range from tens to hundreds of meters. The system is also "tailored" for areas. Sometimes you can't see machinery or warehouses on fire. Secondary flashes of grass, forest, and fields are visible instead. For example, from the flying debris," Crimean Wind explained.

A short time later, it was reported that the fire had reached the airfield.

"The fire near the Vesele airfield has expanded, the Crimean Wind monitoring group reports, citing satellite data. Now it is directly at the airfield complex," the Crimean Wind administrators said in a statement accompanied by new photos.

The channel recalled that Vesele airfield (Dzhankoi-5 in the Soviet times) used to be inactive as part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. However, after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, some activity was recorded there.

"Last fall, air defense and electronic warfare systems appeared there (at the airfield - Ed.) and repairs were carried out. The helicopters from Berdiansk that remained intact may well be redeployed to this airfield," the report said.

Earlier, it became known that a smoking Russian ship was spotted in Sevastopol Bay. The reasons could be a fire or a smoke installation test.

In addition, it was reported that a Russian S-300 air defense system was damaged in a missile attack at dawn on October 30. A diesel generator was also destroyed.

At the same time, according to preliminary data, the occupiers managed to avoid losses in manpower during the hit.
