In the Donetsk region, fierce fighting is taking place between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the Russian occupiers in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions. The enemy has deployed four additional brigades to these frontline areas.

Nazar Voloshyn, spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops, said this on Monday, May 6, during the United News telethon. According to him, the enemy managed to achieve some tactical success, but did not gain an operational advantage.

The enemy's main attack forces are now trying to break through the defense of our troops, build on their success and reach large settlements - Kurakhove and Pokrovsk. In these two areas, the Russian Federation has deployed a large number of units, and the aggressor country has had a numerical advantage in people, weapons and military equipment from the very beginning.

"The occupants are attacking the positions of our troops in those areas every day. And now the enemy is trying to develop an offensive to the west of Avdiivka and Maryinka, making its way to Pokrovsk and Kurakhove," Voloshyn said.

He said that the Ukrainian side is taking measures to strengthen defense in these areas.

"The units that suffered losses have been replaced, and brigades that have regained their combat capability are being relocated. That is, we are also acting proactively, not waiting for the enemy's actions," the spokesman explained.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky visited the frontline areas where the Russian occupation forces have concentrated their main forces for the upcoming offensive. He stated that the situation at the front was difficult and said that the enemy was trying to reach Kurakhove and Pokrovsk.
