Over the past month, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have made progress near the village of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region. Thanks to the hard work of the defenders, the situation in this area of the front (on the border with the Zaporizhzhia region Ed.) has stabilized.

This is the assessment of the events by the intelligence community of the UK Ministry of Defense. The report of October 8 was published on its official page on X (Twitter).

In particular, back in June-July 2023, British intelligence reported intense fighting near Velyka Novosilka, which is located west of Vuhledar. However, over the past four weeks, the fighting there has become much less intense.

"Over the summer, Ukraine has almost certainly liberated at least 125 square kilometers of territory in this area," the report says.

The agency estimates that the offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area have shackled the forces of units of the 36th and 5th Combined Arms Armies of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation. In particular, Ukrainian soldiers did not allow the occupiers to strengthen other areas on the front line. They also did not allow the enemy to man up airborne units.

However, against the backdrop of stabilization of the situation near Velyka Novosilka, British intelligence officers point out that Russian troops are still in a defensive position. They hope to protect themselves from possible future Ukrainian offensives.

Experts believe it is unlikely that the aggressor will withdraw a significant part of its troops from this area in the Donetsk region within the next month and a half.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, 68 combat engagements took place on the Ukrainian front on October 7. The defenders repelled 13 enemy attacks in the Kupiansk and six in the Lyman directions. The occupants also conducted more than two dozen unsuccessful attacks near Avdiivka and Marinka, and ten more in the Shakhtarsk direction.
