In the evening of April 18, Russian troops launched air strikes on the center of Vovchansk in Kharkiv region. Two people were killed.
The city market and private houses were damaged. This was reported by the State Emergency Service and the Kharkiv Regional Military-Civilian Administration.
The night before, around 10 p.m., Russian troops launched air strikes on the city of Vovchansk in Chuhuiv district, Kharkiv region.
"After 22:00 on April 18, there was a massive shelling of the city of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. The occupiers fired from aircraft right in the center of the city. As a result of the strike, fires broke out, and rescuers arrived to eliminate them immediately after the explosions stopped," the SES noted.
The invaders habitually hit residential buildings and social infrastructure. Earlier, the occupiers dropped two bombs on the city. Fires broke out at the sites of the attacks.
"Upon arrival at the scene, we found two fires: on the territory of a private household and at the local market. Thus, in the first case, 2 residential buildings, a summer kitchen, 2 outbuildings on a total area of 500 square meters were burning. Another 10 neighboring houses were damaged. According to preliminary data, two people were injured. In the second case, about 60 trade pavilions on an area of 1000 square meters burned. In addition, about 150 other pavilions were damaged by fire and blast waves," the SES outlined the extent of the damage.
Rescuers were extinguishing the fires until 4 a.m.
According to the State Emergency Service, the city market was destroyed by almost 90%. Meanwhile, rescuers were searching for a couple under the rubble of one of the houses.
The bodies of a 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were found during the search and rescue operation.
"During the search and rescue operations at the site of the air strike in Vovchansk, the bodies of two dead civilians were found - a 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman. I express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The work on the debris removal is ongoing," wrote the head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Sinegubov.
As a reminder, a few days ago, Russian troops attacked the border of Chernihiv region with guided aerial bombs. An industrial enterprise in Semenivka district came under enemy fire. One employee of the enterprise was wounded. In addition, buildings on the territory were destroyed.
