Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has launched hundreds of attacks on military targets in the rear of the terrorist country Russia. Long-range drone attacks have become an increasingly prominent part of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and one of the main Ukrainian drones used for such missions is the "Liutiy" UAV.

The Ukrainian military is carefully programming the future route of the drones to bypass Russian air defense and make the attack as effective as possible. CNN showed how the preparations for the attacks are going on and what targets Ukrainian drones are hitting in Russia.

The "Liutyi" drone, which is about 4 meters long and has a wingspan of up to 7 meters, is launched from secret locations. Journalists showed how one of the Ukrainian drone units was preparing to launch more than 100 drones during the night of September 29. The target of the attack was an ammunition depot loaded with recently delivered Iranian missiles.

Russian air defense disrupts many attacks by Ukrainian drones. According to the unit, the success rate could be increased from 50 to 95 percent if the United States authorizes the use of Western weapons in attacks on Russian territory.

The planning stage of UAV missions is crucial. According to Ukrainian defenders, planning accounts for up to 60% of success. Each drone can be programmed with more than 1,000 different waypoints to evade Russian air defense systems.

At the same time, other units are often involved in drone attacks. Along with the "Liutyi" UAV, "Rubaka" kamikaze drones are also used in attacks. These smaller drones are crucial to the success of any mission. Their purpose is to suppress air defense and distract the Russian occupiers from the "Liutyi," which often carries a payload of up to 250 kilograms.

The main targets of the "Liutyi" UAV on the territory of the Russian Federation are military facilities. However, about 30% of all launched drones can perform false missions. The drones are programmed to fly at a distance of 700 to 900 kilometers, so to cover such a distance, it is necessary to carefully consider the route, including the use of decoy drones.

On the morning of September 29, it became known that explosions had been heard in seven regions of Russia at night, and Russian publics and local chat rooms were flooded with photos and videos of fires from different regions.
