An extraordinary event occurred in the Donetsk region at the thermal power plant, which had previously been repeatedly subjected to enemy fire. There, the roof of the boiler and turbine shop fell, which led to the emergency shutdown of power units.

It is known about one dead and three wounded, the fate of two more people is still unknown. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

"An accident occured at the thermal power plant in the Donetsk region, which has been previously repeatedly subjected to enemy shelling. The roof of the boiler and turbine shop fell down, due to which the staff emergency shutdown of power units. One person died, two are reported missing, three were injured and sent to the hospital," the report noted.

Removal of debris continues.

The Ministry of Energy did not specify where the accident occurred. In the prosecutor's office of the Donetsk region noted that it was Kurakhivska TPP.

"On July 7, 2023, around 23:10, there was a collapse of the roof and several floors of the critical infrastructure facility in the city of Kurakhivka. Due to the collapse of metal and concrete structures, one employee died. Three employees were taken to hospital with open head injuries, rib fractures and contusions. Also medical care is provided to a woman who is in a pre-infarct condition," the message says.

The prosecutor's office confirmed that two people might still be under the rubble.

At the moment, the prosecutor's office is verifying the fact that workers were allowed to work in emergency conditions. A pre-trial investigation on the violation of safety rules in the performance of work with increased danger (part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been launched.

Causes of the tragedy are being established. According to the preliminary version, the roof fell due to Russian attacks on the plant some time ago.

"Preliminary reason is that the collapses can probably be attributed to numerous shelling of the plant since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The Kurakhivska TPP has been subjected to repeated enemy attacks for a year and a half of war and has significant damage to equipment and structures. "In May of this year, the plant ground to a halt twice due to Russian shelling," DTEK Energy's press service confirmed the prosecutor's version in a commentary to Public Donbass.

The Kurakhivska TPP is located on the Vovcha River near Kurakhivla in the Marinka community. The station was built in 1941. Now it has 9 power units.

We will remind that earlier it became known that Russian troops hit Krivyi Rih at night striking an agricultural enterprise. Two fires broke out there at once, which firefighters managed to curb. The warehouse, as well as the equipment and machinery of the enterprise were destroyed.

A 29-year-old man was injured and hospitalized in moderate condition.
