Air Defense Forces destroyed 57 out of 70 missiles and drones that Russia fired at Ukraine: the enemy attacked in two waves

Ukraine's  Air Defense Forces shot down 57 missiles and drones during two waves of Russian attacks on 5 and 6 August. In total, the troops of the aggressor country Russia launched 70 means of air attack on the regions.

This was first reported by the commander of the Air Force of the AFU Mykola Oleshchuk on the Telegram channel. He did not specify the period but simply congratulated his subordinates on their professional holiday.

"57 air targets destroyed. I congratulate everyone on Air Force Day and thank you for your successful combat work! You are the best. Together to victory!" he wrote.

The Air Force specified that Russian forces launched a massive missile strike on Ukrainian territory with air- and sea-based missiles, as well as Iranian Shahed-136/131 attack drones from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 6, 2023.

The enemy used 14 sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles and three air-launched X-47 Kinzhal in the first wave of the attack on the evening of August 5.

"Twelve of the 14 Kalibr were destroyed by the Air Defense. We are not releasing information on X-47," the report said.

Russia continued to attack Ukraine with Shahed drones from the southeastern direction, as well as Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea area and X-101/X-555 from Tu-95MS strategic aviation aircraft from the Caspian Sea area later on the night of August 6.

The forces and means of the Air Force in cooperation with the Air Defense of other components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed all 27 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs, five of six Kalibr missiles (second wave) and 13 of 20 X-101/X555.

"The enemy used 70 means of air attack in just a few waves of attacks from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 6. Air defense destroyed 17 Kalibr cruise missiles, 13 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles and 27 drones. We hold the sky! Together to victory!" - the department summarized.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Russia carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine on August 5, launching "Kalibr"  cruise missiles from the waters of the Black Sea, supersonic "Kinzhal" from the territory of the Russian Federation and ballistic "Iskander" from Belarus. Explosions were heard in different regions, it was both Air Defence work in other regions and hits in Zaporozhzhia.
