AFU soldiers repulsed attacks near Bakhmut and Avdiivka under heavy Russian artillery fire - General Staff

Russian Federation troops focused their main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka directions, where 27 combat engagements took place over the day. The invaders tried to advance in the areas of Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Maryinka and Shakhtarsk. Ukrainian defenders are conducting offensive actions at the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions.

Heavy fighting was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The operational summary as of 18:00 Sunday, July 23 (the 515th day of full-scale war) was published on Facebook.

The agency noted that the occupants continue to kill Ukrainian civilians and ignore the laws and customs of war. The Russian Federation uses terror tactics, strikes both military and civilian objects.

On July 23, the enemy launched another missile attack on our country, using 17 cruise and 2 ballistic missiles. The forces and means of air defense of the Air Force destroyed 9 cruise missiles. In addition, the occupants made 26 air strikes, 35 shellings from multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our troops and settlements. There are casualties among the civilian population, destroyed residential houses, religious buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

The AFU General Staff warned that the probability of new enemy missile and air strikes remains high.

The situation in the Volyn and Polissya sectors did not change significantly. No signs of formation of offensive groups were detected. Separate groups of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

The enemy maintains military presence on the Siversky and Slobozhansky directions. An enemy air strike took place near Pavlivka, Sumy region. Mortar and artillery shelling hit more than 15 settlements, including Tymonovychi in Chernihiv region, Seredyna-Buda, Ugroids, Yunakivka in Sumy region, Kozacha Lopan, Budarky, Vetarine in Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk sector, our troops are holding steadfastly. The occupants attacked Kucherivka from the air. Figolivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna and Kyslivka in Kharkiv region came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Liman sector, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensives near Torske. They also conducted an air strike in the area of Serebryansky forest in Donetsk region. Nevske and Bilohorivka in Luhansk region and Torske, Verkhnekamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in Donetsk region came under artillery fire.

In the Bakhmut sector, our defenders successfully repelled attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klishchiyivka and northeast of Orikhovo-Vasylivka under heavy enemy artillery fire. More than 10 localities suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Druzhba, and New York in Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka sector, under heavy fire from Russian aviation and artillery, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Avdiivka and Nevelske. The Russian Armed Forces shelled more than 10 localities with artillery. In particular, Avdiivka, Karlivka, Nevelske in the Donetsk region were affected.

In the Maryinka sector, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Maryinka. Russian occupants fired at more than 10 localities, including Krasnohorivka, Katerynivka, Maryinka, Pobeda in the Donetsk region.

In the Shakhtarsk sector, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives near Novomykhailivka and launched an air strike near Blahodatne. Occupants fired at more than 15 localities. These include Zolota Niva, Prechystivka, Vuhledar, and Blahodatne in the Donetsk region.

On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy is focusing its main efforts on preventing further advance of our troops. He made unsuccessful attempts to regain the lost position in the area of Pryiutne, Zaporizhzhia region. He launched air strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Novodanylivka in Zaporizhzhia region and Antonivka in Kherson region. More than 25 settlements came under artillery fire, including Novodariivka, Gulyaypole, Gulyaypilske, Novoandriivka, Stepove in Zaporizhzhia region, Illinka, Kamianske in Dnipropetrovs'k region, Antonivka, Havrylivka, Novoberislav, Respublika in Kherson region, the city of Kherson, and Yaselka in Mykolaiv region.

At thesame time, Ukrainian soldiers continue to carry out offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidate on the achieved borders, inflict fire damage by artillery on the identified enemy targets, implement measures of counter-battery control.

During the day, our aviation carried out 3 strikes on areas where the occupants' personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated. Also our defenders destroyed 4 reconnaissance UAVs of the Russian operational-tactical level.

The units of our missile forces and artillery during the day hit 1 area of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment, 5 artillery means on firing positions, 1 command post, 1 means of air defense and 1 electronic warfare station of the enemy.

The General Staff added that the Russian occupants continue to rob the civilian population by appropriating the grain harvest of Ukrainian citizens.

Our intelligence is aware that in the locality of Pryshyb in Zaporizhzhya Region, Russian invaders remove a large number of freight cars with different types of grain crops from the territory of an agricultural enterprise with the help of diesel locomotives.
