AFU performed a ground attack using exclusively robotic systems for the first time - ISW
Ukraine continues to integrate technological innovations into its ground warfare. Recently, Ukrainian soldiers conducted a ground attack using only unmanned robotic systems for the first time.
It took place in the Kharkiv sector near the village of Lyptsi, where the systems, armed with machine guns, were used to mine and destroy enemy positions. Details of the battle were disclosed by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The first successful attack using exclusively robotic systems (unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and first-person view (FPV) drones) was reported by the 13th Khartiia Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, which is holding the line in the Kharkiv sector. They did not specify when the attack was carried out, but noted that it took place near Lyptsi.
The operation was successful, and the Russian positions were destroyed.
The attack involved ground drones equipped with machine guns and kamikaze drones, the task of which is to approach an obstacle or enemy cover and destroy it. Drones were also used to mine/de-mine certain areas of the frontline.
"These are large multi-rotor drones that can carry a large munition, such as an anti-tank mine. And FPV drones. All this is supported and controlled by a number of observation drones. In other words, we are talking about dozens of units of robotic and unmanned equipment working simultaneously in a small section of the frontline," added Volodymyr Dehtiariov, a representative of the public relations service of the Khartiia Brigade.
ISW analysts emphasized that officials of the military and political authorities of Ukraine constantly emphasize that the state is aimed at using technological innovations at the front and creating asymmetric strike capabilities. After all, this is the only way to preserve limited manpower. Especially with "Russia's willingness to accept unsustainable casualty rates for marginal territorial gains."
"Ukraine also continues to innovate aerial drone production. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian officials completed tests of a drone attached to fiber optic cables that will be more resistant to electronic warfare (EW) interference. Russian forces have recently fielded such drones in Kursk Oblast and Ukraine. A Ukrainian drone company reported that it recently assembled a prototype of the first FPV drone made exclusively from components manufactured in Ukraine.," ISW added.
As a reminder, the day before, ISW said that the Russian occupiers had advanced in the Kupiansk sector, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine had regained positions in Chasiv Yar.
Meanwhile, in the Kursk region, Russian troops also advanced, while Ukrainian troops counterattacked.
