On February 1, a Russian missile attack on a five-story building in Poltava claimed the lives of the Zapishni family with their two children. The whole family was trapped under the rubble in their home, which was destroyed by Russian terrorists.

The attack killed 14 people, including 40-year-old Serhii and 38-year-old Kateryna, 12-year-old Diana, and seven-year-old Danylo Zapishni. This was reported by Suspilne, citing family friends who also provided a photo of the family.

According to them, Serhii is from Dykanka and Kateryna is from Rubizhne, Luhansk region, and they met in Kharkiv. They studied together at the National Aerospace University named after Zhukovsky, Kharkiv Aviation Institute. Afterwards, they moved to Poltava and worked in an aircraft design bureau.

"Their hobby was board games. Serhii was very fond of modeling various figures and designing board games. His favorite color was green, he often wore green T-shirts and always chose this color when he played," his friends recalled.

They added that the couple had been organizing board game arcades for some time and ran a small shop before the coronavirus pandemic.

Their daughter Diana also loved to play games on family evenings with her parents, and she also went to taekwondo for a while. Their son Danyil was a hyperactive, cheerful boy who never sat still for a second. He loved to play with cats, of which the family had two.
