World Rapid Chess Champion (Astana, 2012) and World Blitz Champion (Doha, 2016) Sergei Karjakin, who changed his citizenship from Ukrainian to Russian in 2009, took part in an award ceremony held by the Internet Development Institute (IDI) in Moscow. The IRI finances propaganda projects under the guise of "patriotic" Internet content, for which billions of rubles are allocated.

Karjakin presented the prize for the Best Journalistic Project on the Internet to Comedy actor Dmitry Grachev. The 45-year-old native of Kerch has been playing in the Russian president's Comedy Club for a long time. Grachev-Putin came out to receive the award for the project "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" project, hosted by Pavel Zarubin.

The online video with Karjakin and Grachev was called "crystallised absurdity".

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, with the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Karjakin supported the "SVO" and demonstrated the z-symbol in every possible way, for which he received a six-month suspension from FIDE.

On June 2 last year, Karjakin received a state award from the aggressor country. This event was called a real disgrace online and questioned the official reason for the authorities' decision.

On June 1, 2023, the Crimean refused to play at the World Cup under a neutral flag.
