Yeshchenko stood up for Promes

Former Russian national football player Andrey Yeshchenko offered Spartak forward Quincy Promes, who was sentenced to six years for drug smuggling, to coach children in Russia after his career. The Ukrainian champion with Dynamo Kyiv did not see anything wrong with his words, which shocked the fans.

Yeshchenko said this in a commentary to the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The former player of Lokomotiv Moscow, Anzhi, Kuban and Spartak Moscow called the Dutchman a great footballer in all seriousness. "Promes is a good player. Let him stay in Moscow for the rest of his career. If he stays in Russia and Spartak, everything will be fine. How can he return to the Netherlands if he faces such a term? Let him train kids here after he's finished," Yeshchenko said.

Readers of the Sports.ru portal were horrified by this statement by the former athlete. They called Yeschenko crazy, and called on Promes not to be allowed near children.

"This is really absurd...", "They'll probably acquit some Chikatilo if he scores for Spartak regularly", "A drug dealer is a physical education teacher?", "Are they nuts?", "How can you be so stupid?", "They're really crazy", "Horrible! Have they all gone crazy?", "Shame on you for talking such nonsense," people write in the comments.

It should be noted that earlier Promes was found guilty of a knife attack on one of his relatives and sentenced to a year and a half in prison. After the opening of the criminal case, the footballer fled to Russia, which he had left three years earlier.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Israeli legionnaire of the Turkish football club Antalyaspor Sagiv Yehezkel was sent to prison after one of the matches and then deported from the country.
